WONSETTLER - WHONSETLER - HAAS
NAME OF REUNION:
2007 Wonsettler/Whonsetler/Haas Reunion
THEME:
Getting Reaquainted
|
| SURNAMES: A group of descendents of Reuben Whonsetler of Wayne Co., OH are planning a reunion of the
Whonsetler, Wonsettler, Haas, and all intermarried families. The families of Philip, Daniel, Jacob, David,
Samuel Whonsetler, and others in the Whonsetler lineage. |
| AREA COVERED:
Washington County PA, to Wayne Co., OH. |
| WHERE / WHEN:
Sat. July 21, 2007
Creston City Park
Canaan Township
Wayne Co., OH.
The county seat of Wooster is about 150 miles or 2 1/2 hours from Washington, PA. It has been over 50 years since a family reunion has taken place and we would encourage all the families of Philip, Daniel, Jacob, David, Samuel, and others in the Whonsetler lineage to come and get reacquainted with their "cousins" here in Ohio. We will be sharing family history information, photos, memorabilia; and good times, stories, and
friendship - to say nothing of all the good food the Whonsetler reunions were known for.
We are making this a covered dish picnic-style event. There is no fee but we are asking for donations to help the organizers offset the rental, mailing, and materials costs.
Please spread the word among the families in the Washington area. For anyone interested in more detailed information including specifics as to time, maps and directions, hotel lists, etc., please contact one of the two people listed below. |

COMMENTS / MESSAGE: The Philips Family that was prominent in the area around Library, Finleyville, McMurray, etc in Allegheny/Washington Counties of PA originated in this country with the arrival in 1755 of Joseph and Mary Philips from Wales.
Jospeh and Mary had four sons: David, John, Josiah, and Joseph Jr. This son Josiah (we say he is "of the second generation", that is, his parents represented the first generation in America) had 9 children, among them were the sons David and John.
The "David Philips in Tennessee" is this David, the son of Josiah, who was in turn the son of Joseph and Mary Philips. The "Uncle David" is the eldest son of Joseph and Mary; he is universally referred to within the Family as "Rev. David". He was the pastor at Peteres Creek Baptist Church in the late 1700s.
In addition to these two sons of Josiah (David and John) migrating to Tennessee, there were two others - sons of Rev. David Philips, to wit, John and Benjamin. These four men were the progenitors of the Philips Family in Tennessee. Through usage, many of them now spell their name with two "L's": Phillips.
Hope to see my Philips "cousins" there!-
Mark Friden (of James Friden, of Edna Philips
Friden, of James Blackmore Philips, of Enoch Philips, of Thomas Richardson Philips, of David Philips
Jr, of Rev. David Philips, of Joseph & Mary Philips 1755)
