Camp Buffalo Will Be Associated With National Programs
The Y. M. C. A. Camp Buffalo this season will be officially associated with four national camping programs to provide the camp with the best in proved camping procedures and, therefore, ensuring the boys of Washington and vicinity the highest quality camping experience possible, James B. Hackney, Chairman of the Boys Camp Committee said yesterday.
Mr. Hackney reports that the four organizations that Camp Buffalo affiliates itself with are the American Camping Association, the Camp Archery Association and the National Aquatic Program of the Y. M. C. A. Each one of these organizations is recognized as "tops" in its field. [Note: Missing is The National Rifle Association.]
The American Camping Association is composed of 1837 camps in 48 states, Canada, Hawaii and Switzerland. Over a period of years this organization has developed a set of standards which all members are obliged to meet in order to remain in the Association. These standards deal with the camp staff and the individual qualifications of its leaders, the type [of] program the camp carries on and the physical set-up and maintenance of the camp.
The National Rifle Association has set up a shooting program for all types of weapons. Camp Buffalo uses only spring type air rifles, the common BB gun, but medals and diplomas are issued just as they are for other type guns.
The Camp Archery Association issues awards for target archery shooting at all distances from 20 to 60 yards. In the archery program as well as the rifle program a Camp Buffalo staff member will instruct the campers in the proper techniques for accurate and safe shooting.
