"Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it's off to camp we go..." That's what a majority of district high school football players will be chortling this weekend, including Charleroi High's Cougars, as they head for various campsites to continue pre-season training. |

Back to Somerset
The Cougars will retreat to picturesque Somerset for the fourth time in the past five years for a one-week stay. They leave Sunday afternoon at 5 p. m. by bus and will return next Saturday night. A party of 58, includng 50 players, coaches Rab CURRIE, Mike BOOTH, Henry PENNLINE, Frank DeCOSTER and Frank LEE, three student managers and business manager of atheletics Pete GARME, will make the trip. At Somerset, ______ be quartered at the National Guard Armory on North Main street, eat three meals daily at the Somerset High school cafeteria and work out twice a day on grounds adjacent to Somerset High school. Others Take Off Two other Mon Vallet Conference (Big Six) schools will also head for camp Sunday. Monessen will return to Alliance College in rustic and serene Cambridge Springs, while Redstone goes back to Waynesburg College. Donora and Brownsville were among the 'early-birds', the Dragons being at the Donora Lions Club Camp in Somerset County since Wednesday and the Brownies at Camp Kiwanis in Fayette County since Thursday. Monongahela is due to return home today after spending the week at Camp Buffalo, the Boy Scout** reservation near Washington. [**Note: Camp Buffalo was never a Boy Scout Camp. It was a YMCA Camp.] |
| Bellmar Leaves Sunday
Among the Class A schools in the district, California takes off today for Camp Ronnoco near Jamestown, N. Y., while Bellmar and Rostraver leave Sunday for Newell's Maple Grove on Route 711 near Donegal and the American Legion Camp at Ligonier, respectively. Of six Class B schools in the immediate district, only West Newton and Perryopolis set up grid training camps this year. The Hornets spent this week at Newell's Maple Grove, while the Commodores depart Sunday to share facilities at Alliance College in Cambridge Springs with Monessen. Bentleyville, Ellsworth, Centerville, an South Huntingdon are stay-at-homes. |
