Halsey Burials
in Southampton Cemetery, Southampton, NY
submitted by Dick
Halsey
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Copied Saturday, 3 May 1913 by Mr. William A. Eardeley,
P.O. Box 91, Brooklyn, NY (from LDS film #17924)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE from Mr. Halsey:
This cemetery is PROBABLY the burial place of Thomas
Halsey
but there isn't any tombstone for him or any of his
family.
People didn't start using tombstones until into the
1700s.
Before that they pounded a couple of posts into the
ground
and a board across that with the person's name on it.
They eventually rotted from being in the ground and fell
over.
Very few survive.
