1. John¹ Bressie, son of Francis Bressie and Mary Jones, was born in Granville County, North Carolina 1773. John died 1832 in Sumner County, Tennessee.

He married Elizabeth Ligon 2 September 1802 in Halifax County, Virginia. The marriage bond, dated 23 August 1802 in Halifax County, was executed by her father and her husband-to-be. The ceremony was performed by John Ligon. John Bressie was then living with his mother's Jones kin, his mother then being dead and his father living in Granville County, North Carolina.

Elizabeth was born ca 1785 in Halifax County, Virginia. Elizabeth was the daughter of Joseph Ligon (Fork) and Mary Church. Elizabeth died ca 1840 in Sumner County, Tennessee.

He made a will 10 October 1831 in Sumner County, Tennessee. It was recorded at February Court 1832. His estate was to be held together until Elizabeth died or remarried, she to have the entire estate, and upon her death it to be equally divided among his children. The latter divided and sold the land in 1840-41. On 23 October 1802, Joseph Ligon, Elizabeth's father, deeded to the young couple a tract of 150 acres in Halifax County on the Staunton River. In 1803, John was on the tax roll in Halifax County for the first time. On 31 December 1805 John Bressie sold this tract to Henry Ligon for 200 pounds, and he and Elizabeth then moved into Person County, North Carolina. On 17 November 1806, he sold to Meredith Daniel of Granville County a tract of land in Person County for $375. A second deed in Halifax County, dated 24 August 1807, between John Bressie of Person County and Robert Jones of Halifax County of the first part and Henry Ligon of the second part refers to the 150 acres in Halifax County which John first sold. Jones had become trustee for Henry Ligon, who conveyed the land to him, so that he could collect the money still owed to John Bressie for it. The latter acknowledged that it had been paid in full. It is believed that John and Elizabeth Bressie then accompanied her parents to Georgia, and then to Tennessee. They first appear in the records of Sumner County, Tennessee, in 1809, where they resided until their deaths and where purchased 213 1/2 acres of land and where their children were born.

3 ii. Elizabeth H. Bressie was born in Halifax County, Virginia 27 March 1806. Elizabeth died after 1850. She was living in 1850 with her sister, Helen (Bressie) Towson, in Wilson County, Tennessee.

4 iii. Catharine B. Bressie was born in Sumner County, Tennessee 15 July 1808. Catharine died in Smith County, Tennessee. She married Stephen Jones 21 June 1834 in Sumner County, Tennessee.

5 iv. John Milton Bressie was born in Sumner County, Tennessee 31 January 1810. John died 6 February 1873 in Graves County, Kentucky. His body was interred Spence Chapel Cemetery in Graves County, Kentucky. He married Nancy Wooten 14 November 1835 in Sumner County, Tennessee.

7 vi. Virginia J. Bressie was born in Sumner County, Tennessee 21 February 1814. She married William Luster 7 March 1832 in Sumner County, Tennessee.

9 viii. Paulina M. Bressie was born in Sumner County, Tennessee 24 July 1817. Paulina died 19 August 1892 in Graves County, Kentucky. Her body was interred Spence Chapel Cemetery in Graves County, Kentucky. She married Thomas Jefferson Puryear Sr. 6 June 1836 in Sumner County, Tennessee. Thomas died 14 September 1873 in Graves County, Kentucky. His body was interred Spence Chapel Cemetery in Graves County, Kentucky.

2. Mary Church² Bressie (John¹) was born in Halifax County, Virginia 25 June 1803. Mary died 20 November 1893 in Graves County, Kentucky. Her body was interred Spence Chapel Cemetery in Mayfield, Graves County, Kentucky.

She married Wesley Watts 22 December 1824 in Sumner County, Tennessee. Wesley was born 28 May 1804 in Smith County, Tennessee. Wesley was the son of William Watts and Nancy Wommack. Wesley died 5 August 1841 in Graves County, Kentucky. His body was interred Spence Chapel Cemetery in Mayfield, Graves County, Kentucky.

He married Martha Ann Edens 1845 in Graves County, Kentucky. Martha was the daughter of Ezekiel Edens and Mary Gammill. Martha died 1863 in Graves County, Kentucky. He moved with his kin to Graves County, Kentucky, after the death of his parents.
