OWENS FAMILY TREE

The information that I am about to give to you, is questionable, in that hardly any of it has been confirmed. I am putting this Tree up anyway, in hopes of finding someone out there who can share their confirmed information on the OWENS, to all of us.

MARY ELIZABETH OWENS was my great grandmother. She was born in Washington County Virginia in April of 1855, and died in Travis County Texas, during childbirth in 1900. This information is confirmed.

MARY ELIZABETH married TRIGG FARRIS, one of the sons of THOMAS II and MARY MCNEW, in Washington County Virginia This, too, has been confirmed.

It is said that HANNAH MITCHELL and THOMAS OWENS were MARY'S parents. There is no confirmation of this, because there is not a birth certificate available for MARY. Of course, there is word of mouth, but there is some disagreement about this with the cousins.

HANNAH was a witness at MARY & TRIGG'S marriage. It has also been said that HANNAH was the sister of THOMAS OWENS, so therefore she could not be the mother of Mary, if this is true. Nor could she be THOMAS's wife.

ANDREW and FANNIE supposedly are the siblings of MARY. It is highly unlikely that FANNIE is MARY'S sister, because she is 15 years younger than MARY was. The only way that this could be possible is that, if HANNAH, indeed, is MARY'S mother, then HANNAH may have had a second marriage.

Now ANDREW on the other hand, could possibly be a sibling of MARY'S, but there is no actual proof and again, nothing is confirmed. However, he is more likely to be a sibling of FANNIE'S, because there is only a four year difference in age between them.

The Virginia census in 1880 states that a male named ANDREW was living with TRIGG and MARY at the time. The surname is not easily read, and it looks like either OWEN, OWINGS or OWINS. More importantly, the Census does not state what the relationship is between MARY and Andrew.

When TRIGG & MARY moved to Texas, ANDREW never showed up on any of the Texas Census Indexes. From that point on, ANDREW cannot be found.

We all believe that MARY died in 1900. It has also been said that MARY'S remains were taken to Hutto when her husband TRIGG died, and they were  buried together in the same grave..

I wasn't aware that this was done in those days. Again, cousins disagree on this matter---so, which story is correct, or is there another story we don't know about yet? If any of you have confirmed information, regarding any of this, won't you please share it with the rest of us, so the correct  information can be posted on this website.

This is unconfirmed information, but it has been said by some, that MARY'S parents were THOMAS & HANNAH OWENS, which we discussed earlier. THOMAS was from North Carolina, and HANNAH was from Virginia.

HANNAH'S maiden name was MITCHELL, and it has been said that she is a descendant of ANDREW MITCHELL and MARY MCGOWAN from Ireland. This too, has not been confirmed, and it is really difficult to find out, because
a couple generations from HANNAH are missing.

The only things of which I am sure, is the confirmed information on this Tree, and the fact that TRIGG & MARY had 12 children.

Like some of you, I am hoping that someone is out there has the information that will fill in the blanks, and will share it with us.

The names of the 12 children and their family history can be found on the FARRIS FAMILY TREE on this website.

So, if there is anyone out there who has the confirmed answers, please email me.
