He was baptized in the Annweiler Reformed Church because the parents were in flight from war or plague & therefore lodging in Annweiler temporarily.
He also says:
"Somehow I feel your HECKMAN family was not a 'late comer' (from Switzerland or elsewhere) to the Pfalz, but likely present in that vicinity prior to the 30 Years War. One reason for this is the fact that the above family fled to Annweiler in 1674 - - something possible only with family connections, money, civil or church contacts? If newcomers, they would have had to stay put & take their chances when trouble came -- not having human or other resources to do other?"
