In the 1840 census, John Ivie & family (from Virginia) are in Williamson Co, TN.
There is an older male in the family 80-90 years of age.
I suspect this is John's father, whose name is supposed to be Franklin, and
I suspect that he died in Williamson Co.
No one has been able to find any reference to Franklin other than a letter from a grandson.
If anyone has any information on Franklin, I would very much appreciate hearing from you.
John & Elizabeth Ivie's children were
Robert C., Julia, Reuben Jackson, Tabith(a) Jane, Elizabeth T. W., and John F.
There is also 1 son in the 1820 census but Robert was born in 1823, so it isn't him.
Also, there are 4 sons in the 1830 & 1840 census records.
This possible 7th child has not yet been identified. Thank you for any information you can provide.

John F., son of John & Elizabeth (Wells) Ivie, was born about 1836 in Tennessee,
probably around Williamson County which is where his family was in the 1840 and 1850 Census records.
He married Lucy F. Anderson in 1865.
He was in the Calloway County Census records for 1860 and 1870
(I haven't looked for him yet past 1870).

I went to the Pogue Library in Murray, KY, and found the microfilm for the will of John Ivie.
The will confirms what I suspected:
John & Elizabeth Ivie were my ancestors through their son, Robert C. Ivie.
I'm giving the names mentioned in the will and documentation below.

Will of John Ivie
Wife: Elizabeth P. Ivie
Sons: R. C., R. J., and J. F.
Tabith J. and Elizabeth T. W.
(We know there was at least one other daughter, Julia, who died young.)
Filed 4/14/1870
Proven 3/20/1877
Pages 369-370 of Will Book C at Pogue Library in Murray, KY, MF #126, Box 71, Will Books B & C.

This past weekend I went to the Ivy Cemetery in Calloway Co, KY,
and found even more than I expected to find!

Robert C. Ivie's grave is right next to the graves of John Ivie & Elizabeth E. (Wells) Ivie
and their daughter Julia Ivie. The proximity adds credence to the probability that
Robert C. is a son of John & Elizabeth.
We have recently discovered that Robert is my g-g-grandfather and the
father of my g-grandfather William A. Ivie.
I knew these four graves were supposed to be there, but in looking at the headstones nearby,
I discovered two more g-g-grandparents! William A. Ivie's wife was Nancy E. Wells,
and we knew from her death certificate that her parents were R. M. & Nancy (Thomas) Wells
but that was absolutely all we knew about them. Well, right behind the Ivie graves
were the graves of Rubin M. and Nancy Wells!

I suspect that this property was originally Ivie property.
I believe the four Ivie's and Rubin & Nancy Wells are the oldest graves there.
The cemetery was very well kept, so maybe a descendant still owns the property.
Would anyone know anything about this?

Also, I would very much appreciate any information anyone could share on these two families.
Thanks. Sylvia

I am looking for relatives of my grandfather, Johnnie Melvin Ivie/Ivy/Ivey.
His brother, Finis Watson, was born in Murray, KY.
Johnnie died in TN. Finis and their father, William A., died in Union Co, NM.
We've just learned via a death certificate that William's parents were
Robert (Bob) Ivie and Nancy Long. Any help would be much appreciated. Sylvia

I am working on a connection to Francis Ivey
who traveled west at the same times and to the same places as other members of my Ivie line.
I believe he is one of the four sons of Hardy Ivey in Brunswick Co, VA,
but I can't find a marriage or death record for him.
He is in Henry Co, VA, in the late 1700s and then travels westward.
(He is not the Francis Ivy in Bladen, NC; they can both be found separately through the years.)

In the 1820 census,
Francis (45 up), Gilbert (26-45), and John Ivy (26-45)are all listed in the Henry Co, VA, census.

In the 1830 census,
there is a Francis Ivy in Mercer Co, KY; he and a female are both 70-80 years old.
Gilbert Ivy, 40-50, lives nearby. John Ivie, my ancestor, 30-40, lives in neighboring Anderson Co, KY.

In the 1840 census,
there is a male 80-90, but no female of that age, in the household of John Ivie (40-50)
in the 1840 census in Williamson Co, TN.

I cannot find Francis after 1840.
If anyone can help me find anything on Francis Ivie, I would appreciate it. Thanks. Sylvia

I've just found a reference to a Francis "Frank" Ivey, born in Brunswick Co, VA, in 1755,
saying that he was a Patriot Soldier in the Revolutionary War and
that he applied for a pension--# S38070.
This is the right birth area and time frame for the Francis Ivie I'm looking for.
(He would not be the Frances Ivey that is in Robeson, NC.)
I don't know how to move forward with this.
I think he may have lived in Mercer Co, KY, and in Williamson Co, TN,
during the years he might have applied for a pension.
I've requested another pension application from NARA,
but I had more information to provide them than this.
Does anyone have any suggestions or know anything about this particular Francis Ivey?

The Ivie family has remained elusive to me so far.
I am a gggg granddaughter of Franklin Ivie.
My great grandfather was David Walker Ivie.
Let me know if you have ever been able to find anything on them. I would love to know.
Also I have been to the Ivie Cemetery in Calloway and taken pictures of the gravestones of
John and his son Robert.

ref. In the 1820 Henry Co, VA, census, Francis (45 up), Gilbert (26-45), and John Ivy (26-45)are all listed in the Henry Co, VA, census. of the four sons of Hardy Ivey in Brunswick Co, VA., this would be Francis Ivie and 3 Brothers ;D A ref to Brunswick County Va... is this Hardy Ivie in late 1790s? Counties grew as fast as families populated them, and then formed new counties out of existing ones. Is Henry County of 1820 on the same land as the earlier Brunswick County of 1790s? This I will research further. In the 1830 census, there is a Francis Ivy in Mercer Co, KY; he and a female are both 70-80 years old. Gilbert Ivy, 40-50, lives nearby. John Ivie, my ancestor, 30-40, lives in neighboring Anderson Co, KY. In the 1840 census, there is a male 80-90, but no female of that age, in the household of John Ivie (40-50) in the 1840 census in Williamson Co, TN. The four sons of John and Elizabeth Ivie: Robert C, Rueben Jackson, John F, and the unknown son of four in 1830, 1840 Williamson County, Tn, as well as the one son in 1820 Henry County, Va. If the 80 - 90 year old male in Williamson County 1840 is Franklin from Scotland, what cemeteries and where in Wmson Co would he have been buried? I seem to recall two later generation ivies living in Williamson County 1870. John and Elizabeth Ivie are in Anderson County, Ky in 1830 census but soon move to Mercer County, Kentucky where 3 girls are born before 1832? Elizabeth P (possibly Eliz. T W), Tabitha Jane and Julia. This move returns John to his father, Franklin living in Mercer County, Ky. with his wife. She dies before 1840 census. It is probable that John's return and subsequent children are before her burial. (which would bless her with seeing her grand children, I would tell the story of her seeing at least Margaret Elizabeth... hmm.. Franklin and Margaret Elizabeth Ivie from Scotland... hey you never know when a mystery might just be staring you in the face. :) By 1835 John and Elizabeth are in Williamson County, Tn where John F is born in Williamson County. John's mother could have made the trip and it is possible that she is buried in Williamson County. (But lets not forget that Mercer County was where Franklin migrated to as early as the turn of the century and family and close friends were probably buried there.) The family remains in Williamson County until 1850. 1843 Robert C marries Nancy C Long, in 1844 Margaret E is born and in 1846 William A is born. John L in 1846, and Thomas in 1850. Meanwhile, sometime between 1840 and 1850 our Franklin from Scotland is buried by his beloved family. He is living with John and Elizabeth and their 4 sons of whom Robert marries Nancy and Franklin is blessed by seeing his children's children's children (namely, Margaret E, William A, and John L, while Thomas, born in 1850 could be the spirit child of Franklin as he has been buried somewhere in all probability close by. ( I would like to think he and she were placed together for their rest.) Robert and Nancy move to Murfreeboro in Rutherford County, Tn. 1848 Rueben Jackson marries Elizabeth Clark Owen in Williamson County, Tn. Sarah Elizabeth is born in 1849. (Could it be that our Franklin also sees a fifth ggrandchild?) Rueben and Elizabeth move to Trigg County by 1851 where Landres Sylvestor is born. They remain in Trigg County through 1860 when John Bunyan is born. Franklin Napolean and Jesse Owen are the middle brothers. Mary Ann Tabitha and Martha Clementine are the middle sisters. 1850 brings John and Elizabeth to Calloway County, Ky. Robert C and Nancy are in Rutherford County, Tn. Rueben and Elizabeth are in Trigg County, Tn. John F is still at home with John and Elizabeth. He marries Lucy Anderson in 1867 and is still in Calloway County, Ky in 1870. The will of John Ivie is proven 3/20/1877. It is here we find the Ivy Cemetery and the resting place of John & Elizabeth E Ivie and their daughter Julia, Robert C Ivie, and the parents of his wife Nancy E Wells who are Ruben M and Nancy E Thomas Wells. This makes for researching the relationship of Elizabeth E Wells and Nancy E Wells. John Ivie's wife and daughter in law's mother. Somewhere I've seen John's father in law was Sterling Wells, but so far he has not been located. Perhaps Hardy Ivie of Brunswick County was friend and neighbor to Sterling? Wells.

From this point, we can now follow the lives of
Robert C Ivie, and sons William A and Thomas.
Rueben Jackson Ivie, and sons Landres Sylvestor, Franklin Napolean,
Jesse Owen, John Bunyan, Robert Ewell Breckenridge, and Elgin Hanson.
John F Ivie, and daughters.
