The Distance Charts were created so that participants can identify how closely related they are to other participants.  The charts reflect genetic distance from each participant.  More information about genetic distance can be found on this pages:

12 Marker Genetic Distance Chart

The table below reflects the genetic distance between the participants results.  A distance of 0 is an exact match, a distance of 1 is a single step mutation, etc..  The distance calculation was provide by the Family Tree DNA group administration page.  By viewing the distance table below and the results table we can conclude who is probably related, for example:

bullet

Matches - Kits 36057 and N3022 reflect a distance of 0.  This means you share a common male ancestor.

bullet

Close Match - kit 5264 and 36057 reflect a distance value of 1 and have a single step mutation in alleles 391 for the 12 marker test, however, their distance is 6 for the 25 marker test.  Therefore, they are probably not related.

All Participant Genetic Distance Chart

The table below reflects the genetic distance between the participants results.  The bold number in brackets (ie [12], [25], or [37]) reflects the number of markers tested by that participant.  The numbers other numbers first reflect the distance then the number of markers compared, as follows:

bullet

When comparing Kits 8448 and 39888 the chart reflects that there is a distance of 5 out of 25 markers compared.

bullet

When comparing Kits 36057 and N3022 the chart reflects that there is a distance of 0 out of 12 markers compared.  A distance of 0 is an exact match.
