Rev. Laban Clark Cheney was born in Southbridge,MA 3/20/1808; married November 1, 1831 Cynthia Jane Smith of Derby, CT. He entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopalian church, and preached in New Britain, Derby, and other points in CT. He resided for some time in Vicksburg, Miss., where his eldest son was born; afterward in New York City. He was chaplain of the 4th Ohio Cavalry, a 9 months regiment; was discharged on July 17, 1862. He died Arpil 15, 1864 and was buried at Zenia, OH. Children: Benjamin Hicks Cheney, Edward Olin Cheney and Harriet Josephine Cheney.
