My great grandfather was Thomas (Tommy)AH CUM. His marriage certificate in 1881 shows that he was born in Canton, China (wish that was a bit more specific) and that his father's name was Ah Ching and his mother's name was Am Sing. His father's occupation was put down as a schoolmaster. Should I consider being a schoolmaster to be helpful to track down or is it really no different to a labourer. Can anyone help with any sites or organisations I can contact to further my research. What does Ching and Sing mean? Is that my ggparents personal name? I am assuming Cum was really his chinese first name and assumed to be his surname here in Australia. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully you may be the one to help me
