My parents and my brother and I sailed on the General Gordon from Shanghai to San Francisco, arriving there on May 16, 1947. My father, George Israel Tribe, died in San Francisco on February 5, 1980. My mother, Paulina Tribe, still lives in San Francisco. She will be 91 in December. My brother, Dr. Alexander Tribe, is a psychiatrist in the bay area. He will be 60 on May 18, 2006 and turned 1 just two days after arriving in the U.S. on the General Gordon. I would like to hear from anyone else who knows about that voyage from Shanghai to San Francisco, or who was on the boat during that crossing, or who knows anyone who was. I am, by the way, now a professor of constitutional law at Harvard Law School (where I have taught since the age of 27) and hold the chair as the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University.
