from what i understand, mah was also translated into mar in the english language. i am a mar, and we come from the south of china. there are many chinese americans with the name mah or mar with a long history in china. The first mah or mar was given to us by a chinese emperor when our ancestor presented the aforementioned emperor with a new breed of horse with which he won many battles. MAH (in Toison, from south china) means strong horse. I hope this helps you figure out your roots. Either way, please respond.
