Have you tried to access your Grandfather's immigration records through the Boston area or New York City national archives. All immigrants from 1882-onwards were documented through the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Form G639 (Freedom of Information/Privacy Act). See the telephone book under the federal government and call for the form.
Your Grandfather's name seems to be distinctive enough; also list any other names he used. Also, try census for Boston area for 1900/1910/1920 for your Gfather through genealogy/archival/Latter Day Saint libraries in your area.
