My Grandfather Chan Yu Fung, immigrated to NZ from Hargee in Guandong, in 1918. The ancestral village, Hargee still exists as does its elder village, Sargee. Both villages commemorate their common ancestor at Ching Ming.
The founder of Sargee from whom our Chan's descend was once an advisor to the emperor and lived in on nam lane in Peking (Beijing). After a political blunder, he was given the choice of death or exile, and thus it was he came to Canton.
