SAM, SUM. SHUM, TSEN, TSERN, CHERN, CAN AND
ALSO CEN. SEE HUNDRED FAMILIES SURNAMES FOR
"CEN" -- MEANS SMALL HILL OR MOUNTAIN ON A VERY
HIGH MOUNTAIN.
THE FAMILY ORIGINATED UP NORTH. THEY MIGRATED
SOUTH SEVERAL TIMES. SOME SETTLED IN JIUJIANG,
NANHAI, GUANGDONG (NAMHOY, KOW KONG, KWANGTUNG).
RELATED TO SUM BOK MING -- PUBLIC OFFICIAL IN
GUANGDONG AND POSSIBLY LATER IN HONG KONG. HE
SUPPOSEDLY WAS INVOLVED IN BUILDING A CANAL
AND BRIDGE IN GUANGDONG. IT WAS BOMBED AND
DESTROYED DURING WWII. NOT KNOWN IF IT WAS
REBUILD. IF LIVING, I HEARD HE WOULD BE
APPROXIMATELY 130 YEARS OLD?
ALSO, I HEARD THE FAMILY NAME MAY HAVE ORIGINATED
IN MANCHURIA. POSSIBLY RELATED IN THE FAR
DISTANT PAST TO THE 5 BARBARIAN TRIBES INVASION
OF CHINA BETWEEN 265 AD TI 439 AD. THERE TRIBE
POSSIBLY WAS RELATED TO THE EASTERN HU
CONFEDERATION -- XIANBEI (HSIEN PEI).
