In many Chinese dialects just saying the last name is considered improper so the sound Ah was added to the beginning. There is no meaning to Ah. You would need to know something of your origins to know what Sing would be in Chinese. Ex. Village, dialect, where did the transliteration take place (Mexico, US etc would use different spelling for same Chinese character)
