I am choosing a Chinese name for my son and have come across two methods for creating a full Chinese name.
One method is to have the middle character come from the Lee generation poem. Another method is to use Chinese astrology (based on the number of strokes in characters and date/time/location of child's birth) to pick auspicious middle and first name characters.
I am looking for information regarding the origins of both methods. Did these two methods ever co-exist? It seems unlikely that the generation name method would also satisfy the astrological criteria for a lucky name.
Any insight is appreciated.
