It is very interesting to read of the origin of my surname, Ling. My name is spelt LUM the Guangdong pronunciation. My grandfather is from Fujien province. He travelled south and married a "Hakka" and left for the "Nanyang" - Malaya then. Thru local translations, my surname has evolved to Lim, Lum altho the Chinese character is the same. I still have my first cousins in Gunagdong in a village of "Bo Loh". I will be very interested to trace my ancestry and geneaology.
I think this site is fantastic as it gives the "non-Chinese speaking" Chinese like me to find out more about my roots.
