Lin is a popular Chinese surname that is pronounced Lim in the Hokkien province (southeast China), which has many emigrants in various southeast Asian countries. I understand the Carribeans had a significant number of Chinese immigrant population. That might be a possible origin of Liems. The meaning of Lin is "forest."
