: I an looking for information about my grandfather who was
: a merchant in Chinatown, Hawaii. He owned a drygoods
: store and lived in the back of the store. His name is
: Tong Hong and genealogy records say he was also known as
: Kong Sang. He came to Hawaii to work in the sugarcane
: fields and later set up his store. He left a family
: in Guangdong, China and never returned. He married and
: raised a family of eight children in Hawaii. He belonged
: to a Chinese Society and I think the name was Kong Shong
: Doo Society. Any information would be most helpful.

answer:Have you accessed information from his gravestone if buried in Hawaii or elsewhere? If not, photograph it for later translation. Also, search him on Hawaii census and send for death certificate unless someone in the family has the family records. good luck. jwc low, author (china connection:finding ancestral roots for Chinese in America)
