My Grandfather was from a village located in the province of Guangdong in southern China in a region called Taishan located on the Pearl River delta. The village in question is called Lum Oak Day Village(sorry Im sure thats now how its spelled) but it roughly translate into Lum Village. The village is located outside the town of Guanghai. The village is primarily a farming village with a large rice paddy located near its gates. I visited this village in 1985 and have pictures. incidently my parents told me stories that alot of Lum men left this village to work the plantations of Hawaii, Jamica and railroad in Canada and US at the turn of the century so maybe that may answer your question.
