Injuries from car accident

Vergil worked for Hienen and Mason's Farm implements in Osseo, Mn for a number of years as a mechanic for farm implements.

OBITUARY: Exerpt from Minneapolis Star Tribune :
ACCIDENT FATAL TO B.C. RESIDENT
A two-car collision at West Broadway and 85th Ave N. in Brooklyn Park about
7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, took the life of a Brooklyn Center man. Killed in the collision was 58 year-old Virgil E. Schafbuch of 7015 Osseo Road, Brooklyn Center. He was alone in his car at the time of the accident. The other vehicle was driven by 18- year old William A. Anstett of 5922 Mendelsohn Ave N., Plymouth Village, who was also alone in his car. Schafbuch was driving north on West Broadway, and Anstett was driving east on 85th Ave N., according to police. An arterial STOP sign at that intersection is for traffic on W. Broadway. The victim was rushed to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale where he died at 4:10 a.m. on Monday Aug. 22. Police did not issue a tag. Chief of Police Harry Robertson said his department is still investigating the mishap.
Funeral services for Mr. Schafbuch were held Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Cross of Glory Church.
Survivors inlude his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Victor of South St. Paul and Byron of Brooklyn Center; four daughters; Mrs. Richard (Janice) Winter of Spring Lake Park, Mrs. Delford (Arlene) Anderson of Coon Rapids, and Roseanne and Deborah Kay of Brooklyn Center; four brothers; Edward and Eugene of Maple Grove, Vernon of Foley, Mn., and Delmar of Faribault, Mn.; one sister, Mrs. John Grainum of Mahnomen, Mn., and eight grandchildren.

Virgil is buried in the Hillside Cemetery.

On the evening of his car accident, I remember clearly that dad was not in a hurry. Having a problem with the car generator, he took the time to teach and instruct me how to fix and maintain them before he left for his part-time evening work with his son-in-law Delford Anderson.
