BIOGRAPHY: Excerpt found in Belle Plaine Herald by Helen Sieben 7/9/97:
Sudden death of B. J. Johnson of San Franciso township succumbs to sudden attack of heart failure. Deceased leaves large family of children to mourn his unlooked for death. Stricken by heart failure while in the midst of his day's work, B. J. Johnson, a well known farmer of San Franciso township, his death on Monda;y, July 13, 1908. He felt well and strong when he began the day, exceedingly well for a man of his age, and out in the hay field he worked vigorously, Shortly after he rested beneath the shade of a tree, and then there came over him a feeling of illness. Returning to the house he applied a liniment, and his daughter went to acquaint her brothers of his illness. Returning they found their father in his last breath. His death in so sudden a manner was a profound shock to the family and friends. A physician was summoned from Belle Plaine, and he reported that death was due to heart failure. Deceased was 74 years of age. Mr. Johnson was born in Sweden, and on coming to Minn., he resided for a number of years in Belle Plaine township. About 12 years ago he moved to the north side of the river, and on the farm he chose he remained until his end.
He leaves a large family of children, all of whom are grown, His wife preceded him about 5 yr's ago. The children who survive him are Mrs. Peter Johnson, of Todd county; Mrs. Victor Lindquist, of Carver; Mrs. Levi Johnson, of West Union; Mrs. John Sullivan, of St. Paul; John, Charles, Frank, Miss Anna and Arthur, who resides at home.
The funeral was held yesterday forenoon from the West Union church, and was largely attended by old friends and neighbors. Rev. Fremling officiated.
