The Bowens' of Illinois probably arrived in the early 1830's Green Bowen and his wife Elizabeth Fabor were married in White County in1834, later his nephews, the sons of his brother Joshua who was for a time in North carolina, can be found in White County records

Bowin/Bowen named soldiers from White County Illinois in the Blackhawk war of 1831-1832 ; Green ,John, and Joshua Bowen as well as Willliam Bowin ,Thomas & John Bowen are referenced.

Bio of Seymour & Bessie Bowen of Dewitt County, Texas.
Seymour Courtney Bowen was born in DeWitt County, Texas on February 3, 1897. He was the first born son of James "Lonnie" Lawrence & Dora Alice Bowen of DeWitt County Texas. Seymour Bowen's parents were both born in Texas, the family being descendants and relatives of a clan of hard working Texas and Illinois farmers that migrated to the Lone Star State in the rough and tumble times between 1839 and ca1868.

Aquilla Adams was husband to Mary Bowen

1862 Muster Roll of Captain J.J.Dix Texas Frontier Regiment of Mounted Volunteers listing Private Aquilla Adams of Dewitt County, Texas. Aquilla, an Englishman, emigrated to the USA in 1852 and was the husband of Mary Bowen, the daughter of Green Bowen and Mary Elizabeth Fobar.


The Frontier Regiment was established on December 21, 1861, by the Texas legislature, to replace the (Confederate) First Regiment, Texas Mounted Riflemen. Aquilla Adams served with the regiment.

 

The Eighth Texas Infantry battalion of the Confederate States Army was organized by Alfred Marmaduke Hobby in Refugio County on May 14, 1862. It later became known as Hobby's Eighth Texas Infantry regiment.
Green Bowen b ca 1812 in Tennessee appears on the Muster rolls for Company "E" of the Eighth Texas Infantry in 1862.
