During one of his forays in his search for old letters, postal
historian Rex "Jim" Stever found and purchased at auction a box
of letters from 1860. Inside the box were the Civil War letters of Brandt
Badger of Gonzales, Texas written to his fiance and later wife, Callie.
These historical letters describe Badger's basic training as a cavalryman
in Cavalry Company D,Waul's Texas Legion at Camp Waul near Brenham, Texas,
the Legion's marching orders to join Confederate General Earl Van Dorn's
command in Mississippi, events enroute from Texas, wartime movements of
his company and his overall desire to return to his wife Callie.
The authors' text includes war strategies of Confederate and Union armies
and military events leading to the fall of Vicksburg.
The cost of the book in Texas is $22.00
which includes sales tax.Shipping is an additional $4.00.
For addresses not in Texas the cost is $20.00
plus the additional $4.00 for shipping.
