Corrections /updates in April 2003.revision notes :

Had birthdate as1836 Cannon county Tennessee and as having served in Company "A" Illinois 145th Volunteers and Company "H" 48th volunteer infantry, this information was taken from Illinois muster rolls. Had noted it unlikely that Green (Bud) Bowen being born in 1836 would have married in 1845.
This problem still exists however as the 1850 census (below) shows that Green (Bud)Bowen would have been 8 years old in 1845. ( Perhaps they married young in 1845).

Later determined that an Elizabeth Bowen ( from Johnson County, Illinois), filed for a civil war service pension for Green Bowen having served in both of the previously mentioned services.

I also located this marriage record from1858 :
Green Bowen, marries Elizabeth Williams, in Johnson County Illinois.

Record is from the State of Illinois archives
http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/serv_sta.html

Notes:

Get Elizabeth Bowens' pension application.

Get census for 1850/1860 Johnson County Illinois for Vienna. Look for Bowen & Williams' families.

Since Green Bowen, son of Joshua & Petney never married an Elizabeth, I have removed or corrected the references of military service and determined that is likely but not proven that Green Bowen of Vienna, Johnson County Illinois, Not Green (Bud)Bowen of White County served in the services mentioned. It is also likely that Green Bowen of Vienna ,Johnson County Illinois was born in 1836 in Cannon County Tenn. as listed on the Muster rolls of the 48th illinois Volunteers, and Green (Bud) Bowen was born in Illinois in 1837 per the census of 1850 ( see census transcription below ).
It must be noted however that on the civil war muster rolls of the 48th Illinois infantry (1861) Green Bowen listed his age as 25 and his birth place as Cannon County Tennessee, this would have made his birth year1836/37.He was at the time a resident of White County Illinois and listed himself as married. Also enlisting in the 48th Illinois infantry at the exact same time from White County, Illinois were Green Bud Bowen's brothers Andrew and John. So does this mean that two Green Bowen's lived in White County Illinois ca 1860-1861? These being the Green Bowen that married Anna Gann and later Albina Blue and also the Green that married Elizabeth Williams? What relation were these two Green Bowen's to each other? There is also still the persitant problem of the dates of marriage for Green Bud Bowen and Anna Gann.
It is probable that Green Bowen ( of Illinois ca 1837) that married Albina Blue was not the Green Bowen that married Anna Ellen Gann or Elizabeth Williams.
The LDS Family History Library has a listing for Green Bowen born in 1835 in Tennessee listing Charles Bowen as the father. ( Film Number: 1903927 )

It seems that the discovery of Elizabeth Bowen's pension application for Green Bowen would help clear up matters, but as it so often does the unearthing of new information simply asks new questions.
