[ Joshua Bowen facts 2.html ]The farthest we (The Bowen family web team) have been able to trace back with any great confidence is about 1801 with Joshua Bowen and Margaret Cobb's marriage.
The marriage which was in Bertie County North Carolina appears on Bertie County marriage North Carolina marriage records.
I have attributed to them three children, Joshua Jr., Polly and Green (George). Some researchers list Jesse Bowen and Cornelius Bowen in the group.For example these two messages supplied by Greg Miller:

>> I asked her what site she got it from and what that site's source was so it could be verified. She just responded Ancestry.com. I would imagine that Joshua Bowen and Margaret Cobb had several other children between Joshua Jr. and Green (George). This is something else to work on though.

I thought he might be connected to my John Bowen who I believe came from Bertie Co., N.C. before migrating to Wilkinson Co., Ga. about 1815,. It is believed that this set (Joshua) Bowens moved to N.C. from V. This Joshua was b. abt 1770. His father may have been Benjamin Bowen. Joshua m. Margaret Cobb July 27, 1801 in Bertie Co.,N.C. All of his children are not known but my notes say these three were his: Joshua Bowen, Jr. b. @1802, Jesse Bowen, b. 31 March 1804 and Cornelius Born @ 1805. In 1807, Joshua purchased 150 A from William Green. He d. interstate @ 1845 and no will was found. Hope this helps. Regards.

Now the discrepencies I see in the "mixing" of these two, are as follows :Polly was also born in 1804 making poor Margaret Cobb Bowen a very busy and special woman that year, ( we know that birth years in early records can be approximate or guessed at by ages listed on other records such as census etc.) the researcher that attributes Cornelius and Jesse to this group states that they went to Wilkinson Co., Ga. about 1815.
However we have Green Bowen being born in Tennessee in 1812.Green eventualy goes to White county Illinois and marries Mary Elizabeth Fobar (1834) and has 8 children. Polly marries Mark Mears in Illinois (1834), and Joshua jr. marries Petney Gann in North Carolina (1836) and has 10 children.So lets see" collate' the info above, all children were born in North Carolina except for Green who was born in Tennessee in 1812, Joshua sr.went to Georgia by 1815, green Bowen went to Illinois and then Texas, did Joshua jr. stay in North Carolina? , we know that many of his offspring were in White county Illinois and were married there, and where did Polly & Mark Mears go? They were also married in White County Illinois.
So is this possible? ..yes. Is it true?..don't know yet....So the questions are:
(1) Are, Joshua Bowen, Jr. b. @1802, Jesse Bowen, b. 31 March 1804, Polly b ca.1804, Cornelius Born @ 1805 and Green Bowen b 1812 all children of Joshua Bowen and Margaret Cobb?
