Hardy Bowen & Penelope Bowen were listed as two of the original seventy four members of Capehart's Meeting House. According to Neil Baker:
"There were seventy four charter members of the original church who had received letters of dismissal from the Cashie Baptist Church of Windsor and the Wiccacon (Colerain) Baptist Church of Colerain, North Carolina that they might be constituted to the church at the Capeharts Meeting House.
Of the seventy-four charter members, there were sixty four white and ten colored members
"

Case against Abington Pearce brought a charge against himself, George Keeter, Jonathon Keeter and their mother Syntha Keeter for disorderly conduct, 6 brothers were appointed to take all of these out the door to try and reconcile the matter between them, the brothers were namely H White, M G Cullifer, David Gregory, Jesse Bowen, John Johnson and Wm F McGlawhon. Committee reported they had gained forgiveness between the offending parties.

A charge against Cullen Askew for intoxication; Jesse Bowen and Charles Capehart to see him.

Case of Bro Williams and wife, the vote on the case to be taken so Margaret Williams, Mary Bird, James H Bowen, Wiliam A Williams and Robert Bird is expelled from church.

 

10/11/1856

On motion brethren Miles G Cullifer, Wm H Pearce, Wm M Hogwood, Wm Frances, David Gregory, Jesse Bowen, Charles Williams and Henry H Williams was appointed a committee to wait on brethren George W Cobb and Luke Coffield and the report of said committee be final.


June 8th 1867

Capeharts Church passed the following resolution.
All members either male or female, white or colored to report to the conference once in every twelve months, otherwise they will be expelled. On motion by Jesse Bowen brother Will Cobb (a colored member) was granted a letter of dismission. Brother Jackson Rountree moved that we expell all colored members who have not reported to thechurch. The motion was carried.
