land laid out for one JOHN DAWSON by the Surveyor General or Deputy
Surveyor General. |
| 20 July 1673 | JOHN DAWSON assigned all of his
rights to the said
warrant to one JOHN DENT of St. Mary’s County, “being the Rights of my
self & Wife proved before the Governour” (wit.: JOHN ROBERTS,
ROBERT GIBSON). |
| 28 July 1673 | The Lord Proprietor renewed the warrant until the following 10th of January. |
| 9 August 1673 | JOHN DENT returned the warrant, assigning all of his rights to it back to “John Dawson of St. Maryes County” (wit: RICH’D. AMBROSS, RICH. EDELIN). |
| 24 December 1673 | RICHARD EDELEN, the Deputy Surveyor, laid out for JOHN DAWSON the tract called Starr Cross, in St. Mary’s County, containing one hundred acres of land. |

| 9 June 1675 | JOHN DAWSON “of Charles County in our said province of Maryland”, due one hundred acres of land on assignment from RICHARD EDELEN, the assignee of JOHN WARR, who was due the land for transporting Edward Taylor and Edward Foulkner, received the patent for Starr Cross, lying in St. Mary’s County, containing one hundred acres of land. This land was subject to an annual rent of four shillings sterling in silver or gold, payable in two payments due on the two great feasts, the Feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin, and the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel. |

| 7 March 1682 | RICHARD EDELIN, the Deputy Surveyor, laid out for JOHN DAWSON sixty acres of land, the tract called Presteen [sic], being the assigned part of a larger warrant due to RICHARD EDELIN, dated 17 January 1682. The courses of the survey state that Preston shared a border with Starr Cross. |

| In a deed dated 9 March 1707/8, PETER CARRICOE sold to WALTER STOREY, “that tract or parcell of land scituate lying & being in Cha. Co’ty Called Preston beginning att a bounded white oake a bound tree of John Dawsons and called Starr Cross. How PETER CARRICO came into possession of Preston unfortunately remains a mystery. | |
