The following copy, being all one paragraph, I have taken the liberty
to seperate the different depositions to make them easier to read. I
have attempted to leave spelling as in the original.
August Court Anno Dom 1767
Hawkins and Randolph Morris Hawkins to Execute the within warrant

James Carricoe aged Seventy years being sworn on the holy Evangelist of
almighty god Declares that about fifty years agoe Stood a bound post
near a Road which leads from Benidict to Newport and in the Edge of an
old field Called Gates’s old field which post peter Carricoe father of
this Deoponant told him was a Boundary of Gates’s land and that after
the post was Rotten and gone there was a Small white oake marked ~~
Standing in The Edge of the Said post Hole which tree John Gates Joseph
Gates Peter Carricoe and Several others told him was the first Boundary
of Gates Hope, maidstone and a tree of Hunts Venture James (his mark)

Ignatius Hall aged fifty or their abouts being Sworn on the holy
evangelist of almighty god being at the above Described place in
Carricoes mentioned on James Carricoes Deposiation, Declares that about
twenty years agoe Lawrence Sant and Peter Carricoe shewed him the said
place and told him it was the Beginning of a tract of land Called maid
Stone Ignatius Hall.
Margaret Carricoe aged fifty two years, or their abouts being Sworn on
the holy Evangelist of almighty god being at the above Descrobed place
in Carricoes Deposition Declares She was She was Shoed the Said place
by her Husband Peter Carricoe and that he told her it was the beginning
of two tracts of land the one Called maid Stone the other Gates’s Hope
and that She has Been told the same by old Thomas Hunt Margaret (her
mark) Carricoe
1767 Sept 28th Charles Love being Sworn on the holy Evangelists of
almighty god Declares that about Six years agoe Peter Carricoe Showed
him this Deponant a beech Standing near a small branch, and told him it
was the first bound tree of old Thomas Hunts land Called Hunts Venture
and the Said Carrico told this Deponant that a mumber of years before
old Thomas Hunts brought with him many boys to this place and Declared
the Said beech to be his beginning tree….Charles Love
Charles County We the Subscribers being Commifsioners appointed by the
County Court aforesaid to Examine all Witnefses to us offered touching
the memory of the Bounds of a tract of land Called Gates’s hope now in
the Pofsefsion of George Huntees Laying in the county aforesaid having
been first Qualified as appears on the back of the Commifsion hereunto
annexed do Hereby Certifie that we have advertised our meating on the
Said land twenty days before the Said day agreeable to which we met on
the Said land took the Several Depositions here Contained In Witnefs
whereby we have hereunto Set our hands and affixed our Seals this
Twenty Eight day of September 1767
