America ought to know the kindnefs that has been shown to her Sons in captivity
in England, by the Rev'd Mr. Thomas Wren, a diffenting minister at Portif-
mouth. He had no fmall influence in procuring a fubfcription for their relief
at a time when they were treated with great feverity : This fubfription a-
mounted to upwards of 4000 £ Sterling; and he was appointed one of the
diftributors of this bounty, in cloaths and other neceffaries to the fufferers.
Such humanity and generofity as they have experienced from this good man,
and others of the fame fpirit, cannot be mentioned here with indifferance.
They deferve particular honor and applaufe.
He has fent over a Lift of the New-England prifoners at Forton, near Portf-
mouth; your publifhing it in your paper may further his humans views by
giving relief to the minds of fome of their anxious friends. Since the alliance
with France, and the profpect of eftablifhing our Independence, all our
prifoners in England have been treated with lenity.
