This information gives us the connection of the American name BLISSMER (via Heinrich Bliesemer), back to the ancestors in Germany, on the Island of Fehmarn in the Baltic Sea. It is very limited at this moment. Please observe that the original spelling was Bliesmer, which continued to Bliesmer, then changed to Bliesemer, which eventually became Blissmer in the United States.

The 4 church parishes on Fehmarn seem to have excellent records, some back to the 1300's. But the families here create yet new challenges. The 9 children of Marcus Casper were born on Fehmarn, which is where the data was located. However, Marcus Casper was NOT born on Fehmarn, but in Dahme, Germany, which is just off the south side of the island on the Baltic Sea. In 2006, Marcus, and his family, were located.

Langbehn, Blissmer, and Wulf were all associated with St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church In Calumet City, Illinois. The original German church records have been microfilmed, and are available at the South Suburban Genealogical & Historical Society, Hazel Crest, IL. They can be contacted via e-mail at: SSGHS. The films are also available at LDS.

If you have information, or a connection to, any of the Bliesmer, Bliesemer, Hansen, or Schumacher families above, your communication would help expand knowledge of our family in Germany (And America). A friendly tip on where to rub the magic Genie Lamp is appreciated too. E-MAIL: BLISSMER
