NOTES: David and Elizabeth Sease Kersh moved from South Carolina
to Alabama some time before 1825 and settled in Bibb County. Several
of Andrew Kersh's sons went by wagon train to Mississippi and settled
there, but David was not among them. It is thought that he came to Alabama
because several of Elizabeth's relatives (a maternal uncle, George Riser II,
and an aunt, Barbara Riser, who married John Lightsey in Alabama) had
moved there earlier. David was of German descent, possibly the grandson
of Hans Georg Kersh, who immigrated from Germany to South Carolina
about 1742. Elizabeth Sease (Suss) also was of German descent; her
parents came from Germany to South Carolina before 1756.
David received federal land patents in Bibb County in 1835 and in 1858.
His farm was in the Sandy Creek area. In 1842, he was a member of a
committee named to build a Methodist church on Sandy Creek. In 1853,
he was one of the trustees for a school, Sandy Creek Academy, to be
organized in Sandy.
