William Butram
WILLIAM BUTRAM was born on July 18, 1759, in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina. His
parents were William Butram (b. 1735) and Margaret (last name
unknown). He died in November 1853 in White County, Tennessee. He was buried in the Bradley Cemetery
on the Calfkiller River just south of Putnam County in White County. The cemetery is in a pasture that
is grazed by cattle. He has a marker that was placed by the DAR. William fought in a campaign against
the Cherokee Indians. He was a private with the North Carolina Militia in the Revolutionary War. It
is believed that he was with Washington at Valley Forge. William volunteered as a lighthorse man
against the militia. On January 29, 1780, he married Sarah Patterson in Salisbury, North Carolina.
