Nicholas Butterum
NICHOLAS BUTTERUM was born around 1640 possibly in Maryland. He has also been listed in
records under the last name of Butteram and Buttram. He was the son of John
Butterum (b. 1610). By January 23, 1671, he showed up in Calvert County, Maryland. He was
prominent in Calvert County for the next 15 years, until he died in 1686. On June 14, 1680, Lord
Baltimore granted to Nicholas Buttram a parcel of land containing 400 acres. This land went to
his son, William. He died on October 30, 1686, in Calvert County, Maryland.
Different sources link Nicholas to two wives: Jane (Parker?) and Elizabeth Henderson. Jane may
have been the mother of his son, William. According to one source, Nicholas Buttram petitioned
the court sometime around 1678-1679 to be granted land inherited by his wife, Elizabeth Henderson,
widow of Andrew Henderson.
