Finding the location of any burial sites in the Kentucky wilderness during the late 1700s is rarely possible. Most burials took place on the family homestead. Nearly all were identified by simple stones or wooden markers that have long since disappeared.
However, there are several known burial places of some interest to our study of John Allen.
Lulbegrud Cemetery is located about 3 miles southwest from Mt. Sterling along Prewitt Pike at GPS Coordinates: Latitude: 38.02045, Longitude: -83.98920. The gravestone of Thomas Boone, long time Lulbegrud preacher, is pictured.
Prewitt Cemetery is located about 3 miles southwest from Mt. Sterling along Prewitt Pike at GPS Coordinates: Latitude: 38.02220, Longitude: -83.99810. The grave marker of James Prewitt can be seen in this 2009 photo.
Myers Cemetery (aka Myers-Prewitt Cemetery) is located about 8 miles southeast of Mt. Sterling along KY 599 at GPS Coordinates: Latitude: 37.93970, Longitude: -83.83810. Henry and Hannah Myers were the parents of Barbary Myers who John Allen's son George married in 1806.
Family grave markers I have visited and photgraphed over the years.
